What our guests say

We came to Genoa on a cruise ship and only had 10 hours there and spent 8 with Federico. What a great experience. We made homemade pasta and pesto sauce and tried lots of local wines. Federico could not have been more hospitable and kind. After cooking and having a fabulous lunch we did a walking tour through Genoa with Federico, he has lived there all his life. We did go to the food and wine market in the port that was open and was great. if you love food and want a true feel of Italian culture and living you will love this tour. Our family has made homemade pasta every Sunday since we have been back and tried making ravioli yesterday; it is so easy and great family time together. Thanks Federico - Dora S., USA

Cooking Class in Genoa Private Home Program

Genova is one of largest and most vibrant cities in Liguria, a northern Italian coastal region heavily influenced by the important port in Genoa that brought goods and foods from all over the world into Italy.  Genoa, made famous by native son Christopher Columbus, is now a modern, bustling city built into the hillsides overlooking the blue sea below. Genova (as the city is known in Italian) has a rich culinary tradition with dishes such as pasta al pesto and a wealth of delicious seafood dishes made from locally caught fish.

Your Genoa Cooking Class begins when Federico and Manuela welcome you into their home in the Genova suburbs, about a 20-minute taxi ride from the historic city center.  Federico and Manuela were more than happy to move out of the city to have outdoor space for a garden and for their two young children.

Federico will present the daily menu to you at this beginning of your culinary day, and then you'll get down to the business of cooking an excellent, fresh meal focusing on fish, meat or whatever you have indicated would be of most interest.  First, you'll head out to the garden to collect all the fresh, seasonal ingredients you will be using during your cooking class.  Then back to the kitchen where you'll learn to prepare homemade pasta and an accompanying traditional sauce like pesto, a preferred dressing of foodies everywhere, a main dish and dessert.

During your cooking class, you can take a break to enjoy some tasty traditional Ligurian appetizers that your expert chefs have prepared for you.  This cooking lesson can be either fish or meat-based, so please let us know which you prefer when booking!

In addition to your delicious cooking class, be sure to ask us about our tours with the expert Federico in Cinque Terre or Genova’s delightful historic center, including its famous aquarium.  We can also arrange for a market walk in Genoa for an additional fee to be held prior to your cooking class – be sure to contact us to request this before booking.

Manuela works for a large IT company and speaks English and German fluently.  This fun couple are certified foodies, and are passionate about good food and excellent red and white wines.  Their free time is spent cultivating their own organic garden producing fresh ingredients for their culinary creations.
