What our guests say

The driver Le Baccanti organized for us took us to places we never would have found ourselves. Our tour included tastings of fantastic wines, and we wrapped the tour up having experienced this county's treasures of food and wine. We had the greatest time in Italy this day. Everyone who loves Italy, and wine should consider this experience!

Irpinia Wine Tour from Naples Program

Campania is internationally famous for its astonishing landscapes and deep blue sea dotted with the fabled islands on which, according to ancient tradition, the Sirens sang their alluring songs that led passing sailors to their doom.  Just a few kilometers inland from Naples, a true wine paradise awaits for wine and food lovers seeking a different, off-the-beaten-track side of Italy: Irpinia.  Cult wines such as Mastroberadino, Feudi di San Gregorio, Montevetrano, and Galardi are a feature of this terrific wine region, along with many other labels waiting for you to discover them on this full-day wine tour.

Your Irpinia Wine Tour from Naples or Salerno begins when your friendly, English-speaking chauffeur greets you at your accommodations to drive you inland.  After a leisurely drive through some lovely panoramas, you'll stop at an exclusive winery highly rated by several influential European and American wine publications.  Here, you'll be able to taste a selection of fresh, zesty whites and fruity, intense reds. An English-speaking, personable winery guide or the winery owner will give you a tour through the estate, while telling you about Campania's wine appellations, varieties and wines.

After the tour, you will have your guided wine tasting and put your new knowledge to good use as you begin to understand the different feels and sensations these delicious wines contain.  Proceeding onwards for lunch, we'll book you in a fine, local restaurant where you'll be able to sample more great Irpinian wines along with your delectable, traditional  southern Italian dishes.

In the afternoon you'll continue your exploration of this wonderful wine region by visiting a second highly-regarded winery.  After a thorough exploration of the winery's cellars and another guided tasting, your Irpinia Wine Tour will conclude with your return to your accommodations in Naples or Salerno seated comfortably in one of our luxury vehicles.

Irpinia Wine Region History

The region of Campania is well-noted on tourist maps, but surprisingly not on those of food and wine lovers.  These noble, mellow hills have long produced superb oenological products, many of them derived from Ancient Greek grape varietals: largely-unknown, blockbuster red wines and fragrant, delicate white wines.

The names Greco, a white varietal, and Aglianico, both mean Greek, the latter deriving from the hellenic.  On an interesting modern side note, Feudi di San Gregorio's spectacular wine cellar was designed by Japanese architect Hikaru Mori and is reputed to have cost 25 million dollars.  Feudi wines are known for being concentrated but with finesse.
