Amarone Wine Tour Program

Just north of the fabled city of Verona and less than two hours from Venice, lies the Valpolicella, an area rich with vineyards and beautiful cellars. Your Amarone wine tour begins when your friendly, English-speaking chauffeur greets you at your hotel, and you'll be off across the Valpolicella to visit your first Amarone winery of the day. The winery is one of the region's finest, and is housed in a magnificent historic villa on extensive, lush grounds. Your visit will include a look into the villa's beautifully frescoed rooms, wine cellar, and of course the special grape-drying rooms. The visit will conclude with a guided tasting of the winery's exquisite Amarone and other estate wines.

At lunch you can enjoy the atmosphere and delicious traditional food in a wonderful local restaurant. After your meal it will be time to discover a second, top-quality winery. At this winery you will learn even more about the secrets of Amarone and taste their wines with a winery professional. You can compare and contrast the intense aromas and flavors of Amarone di Valpolicella.

A Bit of Background on Amarone

The Valpolicella valley is famous for its red wines, especially the dense, full-bodied, and purple-ruby red Amarone di Valpolicella. A special technique makes Amarone stand apart from other Italian reds: before fermentation, the best quality Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes are harvested and then left to air-dry for four months in special drying rooms. In the hands of masterful and skilled winemakers, this extra step in the winemaking process results in Amarone's unique characteristics of incredibly deep color, intense flavors, and very smooth tannins.
