TESTIMONIALS
| My husband and I had a wonderful trip to Italy. It is such a beautiful place, and we look forward to returning again and again. We greatly enjoyed our Sagrantino Wine Tour. The driver/guide was very professional and considerate. You are definitely a a "class" organization. Everyone made us feel very comfortable. The winery tours were educational and fun. We were able to see Montefalco, which is a quaint town.
Lunch was terrific! The driver/guide also offered us a couple recommendations for our trip, which were spot on!
Best, LeAnn W., Nevada USA

Little explored wonderful DOCG wine area!
Beautiful lush Umbrian countryside
Unique passito wine made from dried grapes
Gorgeous vineyard estates
Sagrantino di Montefalco Wine Tour Program from Perugia
Whether you love red wine, white wine or dessert wine, the area just outside of Perugia is the perfect wine growing region to explore! Home of the Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, among others, this area has been cultivated for centuries with the native Sagrantino grape varietal and the hard working wine makers of the area have been creating wine fit for popes and kings ever since.
Your personal chauffeur for the day will collect you at your accommodation in Perugia, and you will head out into the lush Umbrian countryside. Your first stop is a gorgeous vineyard estate that makes Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG. As you tour the estate and cantina, you will learn what makes Sagrantino unique and the difference between secco and passito wines and be able to taste the estate's vintages.
Your second stop is one of the charming small towns in the DOCG area, such as Montefalco or Bevagna. These towns have preserved the characteristics of Umbrian villages of yesteryear, with their stone houses and backyard gardens. Stop in the gourmet food shops for Umbrian gastronomic delicacies such as wild boar salt-cured meats, truffles and specialty pastas. You will have time for a delicious lunch in a local trattoria serving Umbrian specialities before heading to your second winery of the day. As you visit your second winery, you can get a sense of the area and compare and contrast with the Sagrantino wines you have already tasted.
About Sagrantino di Montefalco Wine
Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG wines are named after the Sagrantino grape from which they are made. Although considered a native varietal, there are many stories surrounding the arrival of the grape to the Umbrian region including that it was brought from Spain, or imported by Franciscan friars or that it arrived with the Saracens. The production zone covers the entire territory of the Communes of Montefalco, Bevagna, Gualdo Cattaneo, Castel Ritaldi and Giano dell’Umbria, within the province of Perugia. There are two types of Sagrantino, secco and passito. While both must be aged before consumption, passito is special because the grapes are dried for at least two months before the vinification process begins. Sagrantino passito is a sweet wine that goes well with dessert, while Sagrantino secco is great with meats and hard cheeses.
A few other notable wines in the area are Montefalco Rosso DOC, made with Sangiovese and Sagrantino grapes; Montefalco Bianco, a white wine made from Grechetto and Trebbiano grapes; and Colli Martani Grechetto DOC a white wine made from a majority of Grechetto grapes. |
