How will the 2001 vintage be in Tuscany? The season has been meteorologically as expected until the end of August, except for the frost of Easter (17th April). In addition, September has been less sunny than was expected and hoped. However this shouldn't affect the quality of the grapes, but probably the production of wine will be reduced. As the harvest has already started, but has yet to be finished, it is hard to give a definitive opinion at this stage. This is particularly the case concerning the Sangiovese grape, the most important cultivation in Tuscany, which are the last grapes to be harvested. Winemakers who have invested a lot in the quality of the vineyards seem to be optimistic. Of course we look forward to the first tasting in the next few weeks.
